Evaluation of immediate impact of Faculty Development Programme using a pretest–post-test study design format

Abstract Background Workshops are the most common models to enhance knowledge and skills in a specific subject area with an intent explore, solve problem and/or innovate new things. The important aspect of workshop is transfer safe learning environment as faculty development activity (FDA). At International Medical University (IMU), Malaysia’s first private medical university which was established 1992, Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) run throughout year order teaching assessment. In sustain this development, IMU has dedicated education unit called Centre Education (ICE) staff respected developers who academic role institution. However, FDA collaboratively by ICE for lifelong (ICL). Objectives To determine immediate impact workshops health professionals schools assessment abilities faculty. Methodology A retrospective quantitative research design developed collect data from multiple standard setting using 3-point Likert scale. 20 items questionnaire pretest participants without prior reading online posted materials. An interventional hands-on post-test score, same questionnaire, followed intervention. collated were gathered sample 139 attending workshops. Data analysed paired t test, one-way ANOVA ANCOVA effect size SPSS version 24. Results mean difference between score significant at (138) = 92.24, p < 0.01. barely scores pre-read, partially read not-read found F (1, 136) 9.402, 0.05 η 2 0.121 ANOVA. across those read, materials on controlled determined remained non-significant 0.240, 0.787 associated practical 0.4% only. Conclusion within group also groups. controlling not suggestive effectively delivered all participants. As guide, 7-step plan recommended ensure FDP. Majority rated good terms content, organisation, delivery usefulness. high percentage survey respondents reported that similar be offered future.
